In November 2012 Armel Opera Festival announced their international opera writing competition. The aim of the competition was to stage the composition of a contemporary composer considered the best.

The main prize – 6,000 euros and the staging of the composition was won by Parody, an opera by Hungarian composer, Gábor Kerek. The opera  was presented at the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Plsen, the Czech Republic and at the Armel Opera Festival in the autumn of 2014.

The international professional jury also awarded a 2,000 euro second prize, which was won by Fallujah, the opera of the Canadian Tobin Stokes.
